Make a Fort a Home
Hello everyone, I was playing Skyrim just like everyone else when I came
across a nice fort that I just wished could have been mine. That's when
I got the idea for a mod that gives you the option of conquering a fort
and making it into your own player home, very much like you can
'capture' the forts for the factions in the civil war (Only played the
Imperials so far so not sure if the Stormcloaks can do this as well).

The Fortified Yangzee Memorial mod for New Vegas comes to mind
immediately, where you can purchase upgrades, add guards to the
interior/exterior and overall make the base epic. I think the best way
to do trigger the 'capture' option is to either A) Defeat the boss of
the fort, or B) Defeat EVERYONE in the fort, including the boss. This
would bring up a pop-up asking if you want to capture the fort or not.
From there an NPC could be added to make the necessary upgrades. One
concern of mine is quest essential forts, like the ones mentioned above.
Maybe those can be immune somehow? Also, the forts that you do capture
can be occasionally (rates can be adjusted) raided by bandits trying to
capture the fort for themselves, or even just wild animals/dragons
looking for a meal or a home of their own.

What do you think? If you have any idea to make this better, feel free
to add! This is all just coming out from the top of my head at the
moment.

Shhh..I'm stalking.

RE: Make a Fort a Home
Making "a" fort you can use as a home isn't that hard. But making all of the forts usable as homes is a bigger deal, really.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I would love the whole 'capture' part of it, but maybe it can be limited to the more spiffy forts.

EDIT: That or a fort could be made custom, with a few NPC's places inside the walls which don't respawn, so you still get that capture feel.

Shhh..I'm stalking.

RE: Make a Fort a Home
The easiest would be to create an entirely new fort and make it a quest line?

RE: Make a Fort a Home
Realistically the amount of time it would take to script each fort to do what you want it to do would be astronomical. Creating a new fort out in the CK and scripting it to do what you want to do would not take that long at all if you know at all what you're doing. If you have a basic concept of the CK already (can build things but can't really make them do things) then a good idea would be to find and analyze some of the basic scripts that they use in the player houses(to bring about the purchasable house upgrades). Also, whatever sets the Civil War battles up to have despawning corpses and respawning enemies might be a good thing to learn if you want the battle for your fort to be epic, although since that quest is somehow considered radiant (I think they did it like that just because they could) it might be buried in a whole bunch of garbage you can't use.

That being said, I'm not going to do any of this for you. Yes, it's because you're a furry.
