Daedric Light Armour
Hey all, I'm back Grin and to celebrate I knocked together a quick something, Daedric light armour.

Essentially it's merely a retext and a custom enchantment.

In-game it:
  • Has slightly under the armour value of Daedric, minus the shield and helm
  • Uses the cuirass, greaves, boots and gauntlet slots
  • Fortify health 10
  • Resist fire 15
  • Fortify Blade 8
  • Weakness to frost 5
  • Drain personality 5
  • Weighs 55 (just above glass and below Daedric)
  • Is light armour
  • Value of 12,000
  • Health value of 2500 (just below Daedric)
  • Can be found in a chest in the Mystic Emporium (Imperial City, market district) opposite the basement stairs.

A light armour, imbued with Daedric magic and glowing with runes. It gives it's wearer an increased ability with the blade and an unearthly resistance to heat. However, the cold bites with shaper teeth, and other's will shy away from you, the magic with which it pulses giving them an uncomfortable feeling...

I don't like it that much, some elements are too contrasted but overall I guess good job. Is it all your work?

RE: Daedric Light Armour
It's pieced together from bits of texture stolen from the vanilla Daedric cuirass, but placement/editing was all mine.

Also, which parts do you think should be changed? Critique is always appreciated, I know it's far from perfect lol.

Mmh, I'm inclined to disagree with Otse, I quite like the look of that Smile My only issue is the lack of trousers, because the arena raiment look doesn't work for arena raiments, let alone real armour.

I'm in agreement about wishing for leg armour, I hate the raiment. Otherwise I like it.

RE: Daedric Light Armour
The Daedric signs are too bright, prominent and fat, it'd be more arcane (good thing) for these to be subtle details. Also, I just really don't like the composition of chainmail and some ornate kind of bonemold chest. Also was it a bad idea to give the chainmail red spots. I'm not sure if it's supposed to give a butchery kind of look or if those are otherwise supposed to be Daedric elements. So overall there is lack of a central style. I see a Roman army skirt, a Bonemold chest, bloodied chainmail and bright fell cloth wrap.

RE: Daedric Light Armour
I agree that that leg armour is must in real armour. The arena armour lacking it was acceptable, because it reminded us about Romans and their Colosseum, but for a real armour no one ever used it. I think you should figure out how to attach some proper pants to that armour, because dremoras in miniskirts is seriously no good.

I overall like the texture look, as a bonemold chest doesn't bother me too much, as I'd probably guess it was daedric enchanted bonemold, a trick used for centuries to build powerful armour that didn't weight too much, but as with a lot of other textures, you forgot to photoshop the runes. Just choosing the "text"-tool to write some gibberish and then warp it to fit isn't enough. You need to get it to look engraved, old/ruined and evil. I'd suggest finding a lava texture and apply it on top of the text before playing around with Blend modes and "Bevel and Emboss".

But overall, polish it, and it will be fucking awesome. We need a light Daedric Armour!

You'll also want to edit the normal map to include anything you've added, if you intend for it to look engraved rather than painted on.

Look into CrazyBump. It's best to learn to create normals from custom gray scale bump maps, which gives you better control, but this tool is good even once you've learned that. It has many options for adjusting the final look of the textures.

I agree that the red text is a bit too bright on the smaller runes. Darken it a bit and make it slightly sharper, perhaps. There is a bit of over-spray or blur applied to them. Is that a layer style? Whatever it is, I see where you were going with it but maybe tone it back down a bit so the text is sharper but still has a bit of the blending you were going for there.

The only other suggestion I have is to darken either the whole thing or a few select pieces to match the original set better. Maybe it's just the screen shot but my initial reaction was that it wasn't as dark as the original heavy armor. It can be light in the sense of weight without being visually lighter. If that was intentional, maybe we can discuss your reasons and the pros & cons of that idea.

Other than that, good job. Grin
